Tile Backsplash Ideas

Not many additions in a kitchen can match the bang for the buck that one can gain from adding a tile backsplash. There are many tile backsplash ideas out there, and some would boggle your mind. Like, for instance, one home owner had special photographs of meal preparation time and dinner with the family. The owner took the photos to a specialty shop and had the pictures recreated digitally, and appliquéd onto the tiles. So now, this family has a backsplash that reminds them of all of the wonderful times they’ve experienced in that kitchen.

Another tile backsplash idea is to use broken pieces of flat glass such as dishes and colorful bowls and such as tiles. This is called mosaic. You piece the tiles together into a pattern that you want, the exact pattern that you want. The beauty of this idea is that you can make any pattern or picture you wish. Your kitchen walls are your canvas. Mosaics tend to be very durable, just look at the ones that are left in ancient Italy and you’ll understand the concept.

The next idea is a very cost efficient way to change your kitchen for those who have little to work with. I know of one family, who looking for a Saturday project, took a ride. As they passed a local flooring store, they noticed that the owner was at the dumpster and that he was dumping boxes of tiles into it. When questioned about this, the man said that they were out of stock and of no use to him. The wife suddenly got a very bright idea. They asked the owner if they could take the unwanted tiles with them. They looked at what they had and came up with a pattern that they really liked, and then for the cost of the glue and the sweat from their brows, they created a backsplash that was completely custom-made. It was one that some would have paid thousands of dollars for. Pretty amazing, I think.

So, no matter how much you have to spend, or the level of your expertise, you can make an addition to your kitchen that will both please your eye and your wallet, and maybe. All you need is a little imagination and a little “want-to” and you can design and create the backsplash of your dreams and possibly even a few happy memories.
